Tech Talk: 59.0C/59.00.0C Errors

Tech Talk – 59.0C/59.00.0C Errors

Do you have an HP Color LaserJet CP5225, CP5525, M750, or M775 displaying a 59.0C or 59.00.0C error? Is the error accompanied by a grinding noise, or is there color missing on printouts? There are several possible causes for this:

  • The developer alienation motor is not rotating
  • Gears in the main drive assembly are stripped
  • A developer alienation lever cap is broken off of one or more of the shutter arms

The following instructions will help you isolate the problem.

  1. Remove the printer’s rear and right rear covers.
  2. Power on the printer; watch and listen for the developer alienation motor (M6) to rotate.
  3. If the motor does rotate, skip to step 6.
  4. If the motor does not rotate, turn the printer off, reseat the connectors to and from the motor, and turn it back on.
  5. If the motor still does not rotate, it will need to be replaced.
  6. Check for excessive wear on the gears in the main drive assembly. Some of the earlier production units are known to have gears with material that may wear down faster than expected; later units used gears with studier material.
  7. If the gears show wear, or you see plastic debris or dust around one or more gears, the main drive assembly will need to be replaced. If the gears do not appear to have excessive wear, or the issue persists after replacing the main drive assembly, continue to step 8.
  8. Remove all the toner cartridges from the printer.
  9. Using a flashlight, check the end of each of the four shutter arms for a broken or missing developer alienation cap.
  10. If any of the developer alienation caps need to be replaced, the issue will need to be elevated to tech support, as there is not yet a set replacement part available.

The replacement parts noted above are as follows:
